Christmas 2008
We’ve got snow! about 8″. Lots of fun
This Christmas break, we’re updating belvins.net a little.
Head on over to the new “clips” section for a collection of fun and informative web links.
This last Saturday we entered into a popsicle stick bridge competition put on by the ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers, if you were wondering). The goal of the competition was to create the strongest bridge using just popsicle sticks and white glue. The team who’s bridge held the most weight, got a special prize.
Darrel and Dad spent the last few weeks pouring over the 1″ thick book of rules and designing the best bridge ever.
When we got to the competition at the Museum of Flight, our awesome bridge weighed in at 506 grams. Unfortunately, the maximum weight limit was 350 and our bridge got disqualified.
They still broke our bridge for us though.
It came in at 526 Lbs.
The winning bridge (who’s team members got Ipod shuffles) only held 448 Lbs.
So the moral of the story is to weigh one’s bridge *before* the competition. Next time we shall have victory!
Ok, for all of you wondering how Eric is doing, he is doing “Fine”. (I love using descriptive words)
He got down to CBU last Thursday got registered for classes, got his dorm room set up, and attended orientation.
Since then, he has been quickly making friends among the few that are there during orientation week. Today is when the fun starts as the campus comes alive with bustling students and deadlines.
At home, we miss him though its not too out of the ordinary since he has spend extended periods of time away from home before. As for me, nobody seems to appreciate my geek or critique my work as well as Eric did. O well.
P.S. Eric, you should post on our website too.
About the birds:
We were given about 9 of them from a lady who had a canary ministry. She raised them to give them to people who were lonely and needed a song to cheer them up. We’d like to continue her vision, so if you know of someone who could use a little friend, let us know.
